Is the lake suitable for beginners or children learning to fish?

Answer

Absolutely. The designated wooden platforms provide a stable, safe, and level surface, which is much easier for beginners than navigating a muddy bank. Because the fish are quite active, it’s a fantastic place for children to learn the basics of float fishing and gain the confidence of a quick catch. Just a reminder that children must be supervised by an adult at all times while on the platforms.

Why do you have a "Platforms Only" policy?

Answer

This is two-fold: safety and conservation. By using fixed platforms, we prevent the erosion of the natural banks and protect the delicate marginal vegetation where fish often spawn and hide. It also ensures that every angler has a fare, designated space and a clear, safe area to land their fish without any trip hazards.

What is the average size of the fish in the lake?

Answer

While we have a variety of sizes, most of our Carp are in the "double-digit" range, providing a great rod-bending experience without requiring heavy-duty specimen gear. We manage the water to ensure the fish stay healthy and lean rather than over-stocking for massive weights, which helps maintain the water quality and the natural feel of the lake.

Can I use a "Bait Boat" or heavy spodding?

Answer

To maintain the tranquillity of the park, we do not allow the use of remote-controlled bait boats. Since the lake is a shared space with water sports, keeping the environment quiet and the water clear of ground bait is essential for everyone’s enjoyment.

Do I really need "Fish First Aid" for every catch?

Answer

Yes, we consider this a hallmark of a responsible angler. Even a small hook hold can become an entry point for infection. By applying a quick dab of antiseptic (like Clinical or a similar brand) to the mouth or anybody scales that look damaged, you are helping us ensure that the fish remains healthy for years to come. It’s about respect for the stock.

Why is there a shared usage policy with water sports?

Answer

Lodge Coppice is a multi-use park, and we find that our owners enjoy a variety of ways to relax on the water. By giving way to non-motorised craft (like paddleboards or kayaks), we maintain a friendly community atmosphere. Most fish are used to the surface movement and will often stay in the area, so a quick retrieve of your line while they pass won't ruin your day's fishing.

What is the best "tactic" for fishing at Lodge Coppice?

Answer

We recommend a "little and often" approach with loose-fed pellets, sweetcorn, or maggots. If you are targeting the larger Carp, a simple ledgered pellet or boilie on a hair rig is usually very effective.

Is there a tackle shop nearby if I run out of supplies?

Answer

While we don't sell tackle on-site, our location on the Worcestershire/Shropshire border puts you within easy driving distance of several excellent local tackle shops in nearby towns like Cleobury Mortimer or Kidderminster. Our team at the office can usually point you in the right direction for fresh bait or extra hooks.

Can I fish during the winter months?

Answer

Yes! We are a 12 month park and if the water isn't frozen over, you are welcome to fish. Winter fishing at Lodge Coppice can be incredibly rewarding when the fish move slower; catching a specimen Carp in the frost is a truly peaceful experience. Just remember to check the office for any reduced daylight opening hours during the colder months.
